Blog Description
This blog is chalked full of several of my best English 150 compositions. My reflections on my past assignments can be viewed under the Reflections tab. Under the Oral, Visual, and Electronic tabs are a select few of my best oral, visual, and electronic presentations respectively. Over the Fall 2016 semester, my writing style has changed significantly. In earlier assignments I focused more on trying to improve my vocabulary in my writing. This shifted my focus away from the content and as a result, my writings were not as strong as they could have been. After many writing assignments, my writing is focused more on content and organization. This shift in writing style can be seen in the revision of Assignment 2, Life in Motion, which can be found in the Written section of my blog. With this new progressive writing style came an improved drafting style. Instead of just jumping right into my essay, I correlated with my peers to structure my writing off of the rubric. This allowed me to achieve all of the content point and strengthen my writing. Writing for audience is one of the most difficult tasks for me. I first need to identify who I’m writing for and then establish my purpose. With that in mind, I can then start drafting my essay around the audience and purpose. Along with the adjusted drafting, my revision process also needed to amended. My peers would read my essay and give feedback about structure and audience. Using these responses from my peers, I made small changes to my essay. This did not always prove as beneficial as I would’ve hoped. Wanting to make sure my writing was as strong as it could be, I decided to shared my essay with peers outside of class as well. With all this feedback, I created well structured compositions. The skills learned in English 150 will help me to build stronger presentations and reports in my future career endeavors.
About Author
Who am I? I am a Freshman Aerospace Engineer at Iowa State University. Gaius Plinius Seconds once said “Home is where the heart is” and he is unquestionably correct. Home for me could be anywhere in the world as long as I am with those who I love. Before furthering my education at ISU, I lived with my parents in a ranch house. I speculate the idea that developed a homey feel to the house was due in part to the loving support of my family and friends. Looking back, some of my best experiences with home is that I was only fifteen minutes from my girlfriend and friends. I was successful in high school and on the court. I achieved the highest honors in school and proudly earned MVP and All-Conference for volleyball. One of my favorite memories has to be from prom of 2016. I had the privilege to drive a 2014 Mustang CSGT. Four hundred plus horsepower, an open road, and my girlfriend by my side, and I punched it. Memories are just a blur in the vast scheme of time, but they are something I miss. I have a lot of respect for my father and what he’s done to support our family. This is who I am, filled with more good memories than bad and filled with love. My town may not have been the best, nor my school, but I did above par with the hand life dealt me.
