This ePortfolio is like an overall review of my English 250 class. I have included an “About Me” page where it talks about some of my basic information, who I am and some of my hobbies. Besides, there are 4 individual pages about my WOVE enhances through the semester. Also, you will find my reflections of each assignment I have done.
My composing processes have changed for sure. Before taking this class, I was used to start my writing process with brainstorm and then straightly going to start writing the draft. After studying English 250 through this semester, I learned to start my writing by reading, then researching, then making outlines, after all these steps done, I can start writing my draft and revising my draft.
I like to use statistics, credible facts and examples as details to support my central ideas. Using these elements as rhetorical devices helps a lot on making audiences understand my ideas easily. When communicate with different type of audience, I like to start with picking a good topic of my paper. For example, for the visual analysis paper. Considering about younger generation’s thought, I chose to talk about organic food. Also, in the documented essay. Because all my audiences are ISU students, I chose to talk about surveillance camera on ISU campus. Choosing a topic that is related with audiences is a good approach to communicate with audiences.
I draft my essay after finishing all the researches and outline. I will have a rough draft according to my outline. Then, I will make an appointment of ISU writing center. They can help me enrich my paper, also, they can point out what’s my weakness especially on word choice during revising. I expect to work better on revising my essay. Because, as an international student, delivery and styling are always my weaknesses in my papers. I can do a good job on organizing and explaining my ideas and supports, but I need to work harder on word choice during revising.
Looking through this semester, my strength in writing would be writing. As I said above, I am good at substance and organization due to the use of rhetorical elements and rich resources. Also, my skill of PowerPoint got improved in this semester. The new discovery of these areas would be electronic part. I have never used internet website resources before, I have never done ePortfolio in English 150 as well. So, electronic abilities is a new area for me to learn in this semester. Electronic area is also a challenge for me, as I said, I have done this before. To come over this weakness, I choose to ask my teammate, for example, I did not know how to create the layout of my ePortfolio, I asked help from my teammate Nikunj, he showed me how to do it step by step.
Overall, I have learned a lot through this semester, not only on writing area, but also visual and electronic part. Thanks for the help from my instructor, teammate and friends from writing center. It’s been a pleasure to study with these great people, I really enjoyed it.
