Introductory Reflection Of English 250

English 250 has been a challenging refresher. Last year I took English 150 and quickly became familiar with W.O.V.E, like a muscle after the class was over much of what I had learned had fallen to the wayside and it showed in my earlier assignments, especially assignment #3.

I had forgotten much of what I had learned including that these assignments take time in order to be done the right way. For assignment #3 I did not follow the mla format, the quotes I had put in the text were difficult to distinguish from my own writing. But perhaps the greatest issue was that I did not read the directions correctly. I wrote about text that was not even an option for the assignment, to put it simply it was a mess. But as the class went on I got back into the swing of things and managed to improve my work, I began reading directions in detail and began to properly format and cite my work.

As class continued we began doing presentations, some in groups and some alone. While working on these projects I came to realize a few different things, for example the easiest part of working on a presentation is doing the visuals such as a power point, followed by doing the presentation with my group members. I actually enjoyed doing the group presentations and as we did more I found that I was not as nervous and more willing to talk than I had before.

Unfortunately doing presentations alone is still challenging. For assignment #5 presentation I  made the mistake of reading off of my essay instead of using flashcards or a short script. This caught me off guard and caused me to rush the presentation. In the future I would like to avoid something like this from happening again, but despite that I actually found that it was enjoyable to take about a topic that I had an interest in.
