Throughout this semester, I have made changes to my composition process to accommodate a change in atmosphere from high school to university. I originally would never plan much when composing something new, but due to the quantity of information available to me, I have had to write down all my thoughts and findings to keep up with it all. When writing a new piece, I generally will start with a simple idea and later build upon that based on my findings. From there, I will then find ways to sort through this to create something my audience will enjoy reading, watching, or hearing. I do not go through this process alone. With almost every piece I have created, I would ask my peers to read through it to see if they enjoy it and understand it. I would take their feedback and try to revise my piece until it becomes the best it can be. This process for me is not yet perfect, but it still has room for improvement. My main goal is to try to revise my papers a little more than I currently do, as my revision process is really short and in some cases, non-existent. Looking at the positive side of this, I have discovered my strengths in several areas of communication. In written communication, I have a great sense of organization. My writing generally will build up to conclusion in a logical manner that creates a good flow of ideas. I have become stronger in oral communication, as I used to be rather afraid of this. I still am, but nowhere near as much as before this course. My visual communication is one of my best forms of communication, solely because I enjoy making presentations that look great to catch my audience’s attention. I have made new discoveries in electronic communication, as I have never made a website before to present my ideas. This has been the most fun yet most challenging, as it has required me learn a totally new form of presenting information when compared to how I have done it before. Overall, I have learned many new ways of communicating as well as strengthened my known communication skills.
