As I have progressed through the semester and learned more about writing I can reflect on my own writing and how I have grown. I have gained experience on preparing to write, the writing process itself. These important processes have been improving throughout the semester.

During the preparation period I have learned that there are a few considerations to make. I learned that knowing the audience is imperative to ensure appropriateness in writing. I also learned that knowing the purpose of the writing is important so that the writing is well structured.

I also have used the editing process with my peers more than in the past. I have gained good insight by revising with others. Having another set of eyes review my writing to spot general mistakes is helpful but more importantly it is helpful to see where my writing could use clarification. I also have gained from reading my peer’s documents. Gaining new perspectives on a topic is helpful to ensure that I am considering all sides of an argument.
Through the editing process I have learned that my most common problems are confusing wording and run-on sentences. Seeing these problems occur more than once in my writing has caused me to be conscientious of them. I try to pay attention to this more now in order to correct it before I even move on to peer editing.
My talents lie in the Written and Visual parts of the WOVE communication acronym. I am successful at making thing look visually pleasing and enjoy doing so. I also like to write, especially when the subject is of interest to me. I have fund some struggles writing about topics that I am less interested in but am working to find something that interests me in each topic that I come across.

My oral and electronic communication skills can be improved as I still have some troubles with them. I find that, like writing, I am much more comfortable speaking on a subject when I am interested in it. I want to work on being more enthusiastic about the subjects that I am less interested in so that I can excite my audience. I also want to continue working with electronic communication tools. I have grown exponentially this semester in this area through another course that I have been taking and have found there is so much more to learn. Because of all the possibilities I have found in other classes for electronic communication, I wish that the class would have done more of it but I will be sure to continue pursing electronic communication methods in the future.

All of the things that I have learned about preparing to write and the writing and editing process have helped me become a better communicator. I plan to continue improving on the written, oral, visual, and electronic forms of communication throughout my college career, career as an educator, and my life in general. The realizations that I have had about my writing habits has also helped me correct bad habits and improve good ones. I have learned many things about myself and my writing over the course of the semester and am excited to learn more.
