Letter to instructor
We completed many different works throughout this semester based on globalization thesis. Rhetorical analysis is the most important part that gives me many practices on both textual and visual pieces. I can see myself get improvements in writing processes and get growth in WOVE areas. These are essential elements that can contribute to my future writing skills. I would like to talk more details about my improvements as followed.
The works I’ve down during the semester give me a new perspective when look at a writing piece. When I start a topic for a writing, I will read the related metical first and find out the main ideas. It is easy to find the thesis at the beginning of an article and relate the supports to the main idea one by one. I find it saves time when I have many articles to read. How to relate to audiences is another important thing to think about. To fit to different audiences, different structure modes are necessary. If the audiences know nothing about a topic, for example, I may need to adapt more basic knowledge in the article. If the audiences know something about a topic but have different opinions about it, it is better to clear the idea of the topic and try to adapt various angles in it. Peers usually contribute great help to my paper because they can provide effective suggestions to me, either positive or negative. Especially in documented essay which needs us work in groups. Their views can help me to see things I didn’t recognize before, such as logical problems and wording problems. When I edit and revise my compositions, I would read through my original paper as an audience to see is there any points that I don’t understand. I can find out many problems when I read it word by word and feel some parts were missing. Changing sentences structure and making a briefer explanation compare to the original copy are the works I did most. And in the future, I would like to improve my communication processes in a direction that understandable and effective.
WOVE are the main elements in this course and I can see some strength and improvements. I think I have strength in organizing paper and creating visual add in presentation. I really enjoy reading through papers and list out the main points. It helps me to get a clear order of a paper and make the following process easier, such as searching for related resources. Oral is my weakest area that sometimes I feel afraid of expressing because I feel like may be others can not understand my idea and I may make mistakes. I think I need improvements in this area by talk more with peers and listen to advices from instructors. Electronic is the area usually challenge me the most because I find myself not good at construct website and searching of resources through Internet. I try to get over these challenges by spend more time on exploration of website and ask peers for help.
I really appreciate instructor’s help throughout this semester. I learned many skills in WOVE areas and find the class is interesting such as analyze and discuss art pieces in class. I will practice the skills I learned in this class and adapt them into my future communication development. I feel glad to be a part of this class.
