Introduction Letter

Throughout this semester of English 250, I have definitely grown as a communicator in the WOVE modes. When I started English 250, I had a history of procrastinating my work, especially English papers and presentations. This semester I have gotten better at being upfront about doing my work and getting my assignments done earlier and thus better. I have had more time to edit and make my work the best it can be by starting my rough draft very early and slowly improving it as time passes. This style of working has let me feel more proud of my work than before.

I have grown most in my Oral Mode. I’ve only gotten better at communicating orally since this class started. I’ve always enjoyed presenting orally but I’ve never been great at it, and I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to practice and improve. It didn’t help that I would procrastinate making my presentation until the night before, which didn’t let me practice and really know my information. For my Documented Essay Oral Presentation I actually practiced this time, and I think that made me much better at really understanding the material I had to present, which let me be confident and fluid in my delivery without relying on note cards or a textually heavy slide. I have always been naturally good at delivering information from memory and communicating effectively in real time, but the more practice I can get, the better.  It was genuinely fun and I am quite proud of how it went.

For my Writing, Visual, and Electronic Modes I have improved, but not a whole lot. I have always be “good enough” at all three modes and I think the practice in using them I received this semester definitely made me better, but not significantly. I have definitely put more work into them in this class then before, and it was gratifying to be proud of my work once I completed it.

Overall, English 250 was a good experience that I really enjoyed and I think I learned valuable information and skills from it.
