Welcome to my ePortfolio! This website contains my best work from the semester. The links above lead to each piece. I set a goal at the beginning of the semester to improve my skills at creating long pieces of writing. To develop each piece, I write down a few ideas or suggestions for paragraphs, then just go for it, start typing, and see what comes out. I take care of the obvious errors, then walk away from the computer for a while and come back later to revise. Of course, I’m not the only one to revise my work. When possible, I try to get others, such as a professor or friends from my dorm, to read over my work and help me revise it. I normally don’t make any mechanics errors. When I do, my errors are normally missing letters from when I am typing fast. I believe I achieved my goal, but there is always room for improvement!
I am definitely strongest with oral communication, such as the A5 Presentation. I have no fear of large crowds and very little sense of social shame, so I can talk to almost any crowd. I am very skilled at keeping audiences interested and explaining topics, but sometimes I talk too fast to be understood. I am also proficient at explaining topics through visual or written communication. I haven’t done very much formal electronic communication before, but projects like the ePortfolio gave me a good start. I have the most challenges with written communication, such as the A5 Documented Essay. It’s difficult for me to write enough material to meet the minimum word count. Plus, I can’t gesture with my hands in an essay. To fix this, I try to stay more organized before and during writing a piece. The organization helps me to not forget what I was going to write about.
This semester, I’ve worked at improving my writing skills. I have also improved my oral, visual, and electronic communication, but writing was the main objective. I think I succeeded!
