Founded in 2007, Black Cat Rescue is an organization based in Massachusetts that organizes foster homes and adoption for black cats, who are adopted in lower rates than other cats. My involvement with this organization began the fall of my senior year, two years following the death of my dog Shadow, with a desire to improve the lives of both people the and the animals that they adopted. Throughout the process I socialized, cuddled, took pictures, wrote bios, and hosted potential adopters for each cat. Weekly updates on each cat’s progress helped the organization give prospective adopters a better sense of the cat’s personality, and photos gave the cats a better chance of adoption. By the time I left for college I had fostered five cats, all who needed additional socialization, but who eventually found loving homes.
