After becoming involved with the ISU Dining Committee, many of my residents come up to me with concerns related to their specific dietary restrictions, and the limited options that they were able to eat in the dining halls. Dining Committee, which focused on big picture issues such as meal plan options, didn’t allow for the platform to advocate for my residents effectively. After gathering representation from Cy’s Gluten Free Friends, members of Friley Senate, and others from across campus, I sat down with dining in order to come up with a solution, the Special Diet Committee. This committee now meets twice a semester in order to assess how well dining is meeting the needs of students, and places residents in contact with dining staff that will be able to speak to their individual concerns.
Currently, I am working with Old Capitol Food Co. in order to arrange a chance for our members to see how tofu is made.
Below is the proposal that I wrote in order to create the committee.
