Oral: Rhetorical Visual Analysis
Visual:
Electronic: ePortfolio
I chose these pieces of work as a representation of my best work in each category not due to the final product as a whole, but rather because I think those best display my communication in each category specifically, even if that part was a small part of the overall assignment. For oral communication I chose the rhetorical visual analysis video, because I believe that the audio in that assignment was the strongest component as showcases what I capable of regarding oral communication. I struggled with the visual component in my opinion as I mentioned before, but I strongly believe that this was my best example of oral communication this semester. If there was one change I would make regarding the oral aspect it would be how my voice at times seems to become monotone and boring. I was so focused on having consistency I forgot that oral communication needs some variety to remain interesting to the audience. For visual communication I chose the infographic from one of our in class assignments that we completed early in the semester. Although the assignment itself was a summary piece that had nothing to do with visual communication, we had to make an infographic to function as the featured picture on the post. I believe that this is best representation of my visual communication skills due to the fact that it is concise and gets the point across as well as visually appealing. If I were to make an infographic at my job for public relations, it would important to incorporate both of these aspects to keep the audience’s attention as well as get our message out. For electronic communication I chose the ePortfolio as a whole, because I believe that it blows the rest of the electronic communication assignments out of the water. Having to create and maintain a platform for all of my electronic assignments for the semester provided experience that is rather new to me and something that I will have to do in the future. I put a lot of work into this ePortfolio and am proud of the way that it turned out. I reflect on this on the ‘Electronic Reflection‘ page.
Choosing a ‘best’ representative for each category was difficult, as all of these assignments helped me to better my communication process in some way or another. I’m glad that the -OVE assignments were part of this course, as many classes tend to focus on only written communication. With practice I can continue to improve on these more uncommon forms of communication to become a well-rounded communicator.
