In this ePortfolio, all of my work done in ENGL 150 has been archived and can be found through the links in the menu bar at the top of the page. It contains five paper assignments, reflections for each of those assignments, two presentation slides, a poster, a revision of one of the past assignments, and a final reflection after taking ENGL 150.
In taking English 150, I have reason to believe that much has changed in many aspects of my composition techniques, styling, and quality.
Before taking this course, I have very little patience for writing. Not much planning would go into the preparation stage of my writing process, and there wouldn’t be any proofreading whatsoever. That has since changed, where I discovered that proper research and preparation is not only a required aspect, but it is also crucial in writing a good paper. I have also learned to consider good sources, and my writing has improved because of it. An example of this is my work with Assignment 3.
When writing, I now take into consideration on whom I am writing for, and I make adjustments accordingly to cater to a particular audience’s needs and interest. I have learned to utilize some elements of interpersonal skills in written form to address an audience, when this was not a concern of mine i the past. Prime examples of this claim is my letter to my mother in Assignment 2, and the poster I created for future students of Iowa State University in Assignment 5.
I have discovered that I have talents in creating visual forms of communication, as demonstrated in the poster I created for Assignment 5. This discovery did not come without its challenges however. I initially struggled using technology to create the visual due to lack of experience with the platform, but with patience and guidance from the internet, I had managed to convey what I had envisioned in my head into this assignment with relatively ease.
In short, I have grown exponentially as a writer. I acknowledge that I am still far from where I need to be as a writer, and much could still be improved upon, but I believe I am now miles ahead of who I was at the beginning of the semester, before taking ENGL 150.
