Video Analysis

10.03.2017 by Grace // Leave a Comment

Toy Story 3

The purpose of this video is to provide a humorous twist to the end of the movie Toy Story 3. The intended audience is for those with prior knowledge of the movie. Without having any idea what the Toy Story franchise involves, this video wouldn’t make any sense. The tone and the visual style of the video is designed to replicate the original movie. The tone includes humor and sarcasm. The visual style closely imitates the way the movie characters are drawn with some adjustments to show that it is not the original. The drawing style is also a flatter 3D style than the original.

Beauty & the Beast

This video utilized various audio aspects to mock the movie. They rewrote the narrated introduction and the theme song to close the video in order to point out the flaws in the movie. They also had two separate endings. The first was a sappy, romantic ending which they provided with the typical Disney happy ending idea. The second “real” ending was used to show the irony in “happy ever after” and further pointed out more flaws in the plotline.

Overall Analysis

Both of these videos used humor to mock the original movies. As these videos are published on YouTube, this approach caters to the type of audience typically found on the internet. These videos are also designed to be short and get right to the point as viewers usually do not wish to dedicate large chunks of time to one video. The videos start with a brief summary to build context and highlight the relevant parts of the movie. This then transitions to the end of the movie and the authors’ ending of the movie. The style of drawing used in the videos is distinct enough to be easily recognized from the thumbnail.

Analysis Reflection

09.26.2017 by Grace // Leave a Comment

For the analysis reflection, I chose the article “reACT gallery hopes to generate conversations in community” written by Parker Reed from The Iowa State Daily. This article intrigued me because it talks about campus life and brings attention to one of the many resources available to students. It also was easier for me to write about since it wasn’t too long and did not contain any vocabulary which I did not already know. To break down my writing, I started by going through the main points in an analysis paper. I identified the main theme, purpose, audience, organization, and expression. I also looked at the language Reed used and how he structured his article. To help me figure out the layout of my own paper, I wrote some notes as I read through the article a few times. The following images are my handwritten notes.

My thesis changed throughout my paper because I started out providing a summary of the article instead of analyzing it. For my conference, I realized that I was not thinking about how the information in the article was being presented. I think I did a good job switching to analysis from summary.

Midpoint!

09.19.2017 by Grace // Leave a Comment

Today for class I had my paper planned out in my notebook through notes and partially typed up. I felt that I had been a bit lazy on typing up my rough draft but I have a concrete idea of what I am including. I just need to type it up and have it go through the revision process. I learned in peer review that my approach does in fact make sense outside of my brain to others. I hope to finish this paper.
