Visual Reflection
I chose the “Chupacabra” assignment as my visual piece because it is a powerpoint presentation and because it utilizes all of the visual elements we’ve learned in class. I used different transitions, as well as pictures to keep the audience entertained, as well as added colors that contrasted with each other so the words were visible. Another important way to keep the audience entertained is not adding too many words to the slides so the audience knows what you’re going to talk about. It’s important to not put just a word as a bullet because that gives no depth as to what you’re going to say. I didn’t use much feedback on this assignment since I had a good idea as to what I was going to talk about and since my topic related Puerto Rico, I felt comfortable writing about it. I did use the powerpoint examples that were given to us and looked at them thoroughly to know what the “low grade presentations” lacked and what the “high grade presentations” did.
I changed the wording on my slides as I went through the drafting process and added new slides to keep myself in the time limit that was suggested. I also decided to add pictures in all of my slides. I believe this assignment demonstrates my ability to be a visual communicator because I was able to present my topic by using images and talking about them. This work helped utilize tips that I learned in English 250 and other classes, such as Leadership. Some of the things I learned in both was: being able to talk loud enough for the room to hear, how a slide should look like and the importance of maintaining the audience entertained in a presentation.
