Written Reflection
I chose the Evil Dolls Summary as my written Assignment. I chose this assignment because it was one of the first assignments and had major errors. I also chose it because as the assignment kept getting longer throughout the semester I could notice the personal growth and how that ultimately improved my grade overall in the course. I deleted many things in the assignment mostly because I got points docked off because of the length and at time didn’t realize by how much. I also decided to shorten my introduction since it was too long and felt as if it was carrying on too long and might bore the audience. I decided to erase sentences in the introduction that might not be important such as: “Many films have taken this custom” and decided to leave it to the audience to interpret that. I also changed some words and instead of using “Cooper and Blake talk about…” I changed it to “Cooper and Blake say” and this way instead of retelling I can summarize what they spoke about. I also deleted some of the author books they mentioned since I didn’t think it wasn’t important to add in this short summary.
I chose to leave some sentences because I felt that they were important in the overall message and thesis of the paper. I decided to leave what dolls make people feel and the fear aspect of inanimate dolls because I understood that that’s what Cooper and Blake were trying to say throughout their article. I found this paper harder than the rest since I kept getting confused as to what retelling and summarize was. I realized that, at times, it’s much easier to talk extensively about a subject instead of having to shorten it and write a couple paragraphs about it. The revision process was difficult in a short summary but found that having feedback, whether from a professor or student, is always a good idea when it comes to writing papers.
